History

Shipped to Japan from the United Kingdom prior to the 2015 season, it was registered to Hayato Kazami on accident when he tried to flee a group of mercenaries attempting to steal the machine and its cyber system. Hayato Kazami was then forced to use the machine the following day in qualifying for the All Japan Cyber Formula Championship preliminary. After passing both that, and the All Japan Championship, the car and its young driver made its debut on the world stage at the Grand Canyon in the deserts of the American south west.

Its professional career was short, but gave and important foundation to its young driver in further races in Peru and Brazil. These races each saw and improved version of the base model focusing on off-track performance for Peru, a rally race (Rally Asurada), and on overall speed on the high speed highway course in Brazil (Aero Asurada). However, the car suffered a serious crash during practice for the Grand Prix of Canada sending the car itself to the repair shop. Shortly then, the more superior and advanced Super Asurada 01 was unveiled and since then Sugo used it as their machine since round 5. However GSX itself was repaired and upgraded by the team afterwards just in case. When the Super Asurada was heavily damaged in Germany round and was unable to be repaired before the Japan round on time, the GSX was taken out once again for the final time. Its final race was a memorable one where, making use of the machine changing regulation, both Asuradas were registered in race and GSX starts the race to make up time allowing the mechanics to continue working on the upgraded Super Asurada 01B. While failing to capture the lead, the GSX stayed within striking distance in a 6 hour endurance race allowing Hayato Kazami to seize victory by switching to the Super Asurada 01B for the final fourth of the race. Allowing him to win his first World Champion title.

The Asurada GSX was phased out in the following season due to the regulation changes. However, Sugo built 3 replicas (one each for GSX, Rally and Aero) and placed in the headquarters of Sugo, along with the Super Asurada 01B as a memorabilia of their first Champions.

Other than official Cyber Formula races, the Asurada GSX also got two victories in field races (or more accurately, crash races) held in America and Europe, which both races are partnered with field race veteran Bleed Kaga, who later become the driver of Aoi ZIP Formula in 2015 season.

Design

Designed by the late Hiroyuki Kazami, the Asurada GSX is the first car to feature the revolutionary Asurada Super Neruo Computer as the primary cyber system. The car itself is nothing noteworthy utilizing all pre-existing technology within its chassis. It is a simple GT style body with four-wheel drive and a Cyber-cycle V10 hydrogen engine and a standard booster system for increased straight line speed along with movable wings and effect fans to improve performance. The car itself also has a high flexibility dealing with different conditions by changing parts, including a boat part specifically designed in marine uses.

Asurada GSX-NEO

7 years after the first Champion of Sugo in 2015 (Cyber Formula SIN). A general road going-model based on the Asurada GSX, named Asurada GSX-NEO Velstais, was developed and produced by GIO, Sugo's co-partner in 2022 season. It appearance is basically to Asurada GSX (but would have a minor difference in hood and spoiler), since it is designed in general use, it would be lacking most of the features of the original GSX, particularly Cyber System (A normal digital clock is installed in the original place of Asurada's panel). The car is powered by GIO's V12 engine without boost pod. In the animation Hayato Kazami himself owns a white-grey GSX-NEO for general purposes.

In Project YNP's version's Cyber Formula game (which officially licensed by Sunrise), GSX-NEO Velstais is set as a hidden car in the game. A boost pod was added for game's purpose.

Outside the Cyber Formula series, a black Asurada GSX-NEO also made a cameo appearance in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (where both series are directed by Mitsuo Fukuda).
